LawnChair Theater Returns!

LawnChair Theater Returns with the perfect play for the middle of summer. The Town of New Castle along with the Art & Culture Committee present LawnChair Theater Company’s version of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” at the Recreation Field on Friday, July 20th at 6:30 pm. Bring a blanket or a chair and have a picnic dinner while watching the play.

Please note: The Chappaqua Performing Arts Center is the rain venue.

Lawn Chair Theater is a summer theater program that has brought outdoor performances to the parks of Westchester since 2005. They have had great fun producing plays of Shakespeare during summertime. Their casts are multi-generational, blending both professional and amateur performers. Their goal is to contemporize Shakespeare without rewriting him, and to create community through their work and play.

NEW: Chappaqua Farmers Market – Pretty Pretty Plums

Tart and sweet, juicy colorful plums are truly a summer treasure. Few fruits taste as delicious out of hand as they do out of the oven as the plum. Plums are just as perfect in a cocktail, as they are roasted on flatbread with burrata cheese. Or simply roasted whole to eat with yogurt or ice cream. Here’s an “oldie but goodie” collection of plum recipes from the now-defunct Saveur Magazine. I can tell you that the Plum-Basil Gin Fizz is a favorite at our house on July nights on the patio as is this ridiculously easy plum tart plucked from the Joy of Cooking circa 1963.

Do you or your children enjoy swimming? How about swimming some laps for a great cause! Chappaqua Swim & Tennis (CST) is hosting its 7th annual Swim Across America event on Sunday, July 22, to raise money for cancer research, prevention and treatment. The swim will be held from 6:30 – 9:30 a.m. and all participants are welcome to join by swimming a half mile or a mile and stay on to enjoy breakfast treats, donated by local merchants.

Last year 80 swimmers of all ages and abilities, raised nearly $70,000 by swimming a half mile or a mile at CST’s event.

This year CST is expecting swimmers from local swim clubs to take part. Jolyn, a popular swim and athletic wear vendor, will host a pop-up shop and donate 10% of all proceeds to Swim Across America.
