Community Sing, Holiday Crafts, Tree Lighting, & Holiday Art Show
December 2 @ 3:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Schedule of Activities for Saturday, December 2:
New Castle Community Sing presented by the Chappaqua Orchestra at Robert E. Bell Middle School (3:30 pm – 4:30 pm) TCO’s assistant conductor Davis Knobloch leads the orchestra’s annual holiday sing-along at Bell Middle School.

Old Fashioned Crafts Workshop, Greeley House (4:30 pm – 6:30 pm)
Children of all ages are invited to create old fashioned crafts and to help us decorate the community tree. This workshop will be from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm.

As darkness falls, the Society’s Tree Lighting celebration (Greeley House) starts around 5:00 pm and marks the beginning of the holiday season. The Horace Greeley High School Madrigal Choir will lead us in carols; and as a special treat and to delight the little ones, that jolly old elf, Santa, will pay us a visit.

We’re back! After a pause for Thanksgiving, the Chappaqua Farmers Market returns outdoors for three appearances in December so that you can enjoy local produce from your favorite vendors well into the holiday season.

An Intimate Evening With: Rickie Lee Jones

Rickie Lee Jones, a two-time Grammy Award-winning singer (for Best New Artist 1980 and Best Jazz Vocal Collaboration in 1989), musician, songwriter, and producer comes to the PAC this spring. The Chappaqua Orchestra Presents: Music Is Science!

TCO’s annual children’s concert features science educator Dr. Patrick Herak and guest conductor Douglas Droste in Music is Science, an educational and interactive concert introducing children to the orchestra, how scientific principles apply to the mechanics and sounds of musical instruments.

Merging 21st century blues with classic influences, Mary Bridget Davies brings a refreshing twist to the genre. Mia Dyson is an Australian singer/ songwriter who plays with blues and roots influences. Both artists bring their strong sounds to the Chappaqua PAC this spring.

Brazilian tap dancer Leonardo Sandoval, described by the Chicago Sun-Times as strong yet fine-boned, capable of authority and nuance, and praised by the New York Times for his rousing choreography, has established a reputation in the tap world and beyond for his musicality and for adding his own Brazilian flavor to the American art of tap dancing.

Calm Together
Saturday, May 12th at 3:00pm
Calm Together is a mass meditation led by Chappaqua’s own local Wellness Educator and Mindfulness Instructor, Daniel Lauter, joined by top area meditation, mindfulness, yoga and wellness teachers and performers.

Also known as Mindful Dan, Meditation DJ, for over 30 years, Daniel has lead an internationally recognized practice, composing for global meditation and mindfulness workshops with an eclectic, world-renown roster of musicians. He is an Integrative Music and Sound Practitioner within the healing arts field of Sound Therapy. He was one of the first to pioneer the experimental performance and vibrational qualities of Crystal Bowls in the United States, and has developed an extensive palette and collection of Sacred Sounds which he brings to his work. This includes didjeridu, ocarinas, rain sticks, crystal bells, crystal gongs, Tibetan and Himalayan bowls, and other Objects d’sound. Stay tuned for full event lineup announcements!!

FIRE DISTRICT CANDIDATES’ NIGHT AND ELECTIONS

On December 12, 2017, the New Castle Fire District No. 1 (Chappaqua Fire District) and the Millwood Fire District will hold their annual elections for Fire Commissioners.

The League of Women Voters® of New Castle invites the community to a Candidates’ Night for the Fire Commissioners elections. We are currently finalizing the date for Candidates’ Night but anticipate that it will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chappaqua Library Theater, 195 South Greeley Avenue. We will confirm the date and venue on the League’s website (www.lwvnewcastle.org) and will post on Facebook.

NEW CASTLE FIRE DISTRICT No. 1
Two Fire Commissioner positions are open, one for a 5-year term and one for a 4-year term. The election is Tuesday, December 12, 2017 between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the Bedford Road Firehouse located at the intersection of Route 120 and Route 117.

Brian Jabloner and Charles Rauch are running for the 5-year term and Edwin Frank and Terence Hoey are running for the 4-year term. Information about the candidates is available in our Voters Guide.

MILLWOOD FIRE DISTRICT
One Fire Commissioner position is open for a 5-year term. The election is Tuesday, December 12, 2017 between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the Millwood Firehouse at 100 Millwood Road (Route 133).

Jason Lichtenthal is running uncontested for the 5-year term.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS
Absentee ballots are available for these elections. You can vote by absentee ballot for one of the following four reasons:

  • You are a patient in hospital, or will be confined at home and unable to appear because of illness or disability
  • You will be absent from the county because of duties, studies, occupation or business
  • You will be on vacation outside of the county
  • You will be confined waiting action by a grand jury or confined pending trial in a criminal proceeding or confined for conviction of a crime or offense other than a felony
