Streetscape Update September 2016

Adam Brodsky
Deputy Town Supervisor
I am so proud to announce that the Streetscape Committee has substantially completed its work! Faced with the need to replace old water mains in our downtown, the Town Board tasked the Streetscape Committee with using this opportunity to design a better streetscape than the one being torn up for the impending construction work. Residents can look forward to seeing new, wider sidewalks, attractive new public spaces, and charming details throughout. Most importantly, the streetscape work will include new crosswalks and traffic/parking improvements that will make it safer for residents (and especially our young kids on Friday afternoons) to walk around our downtown. I believe that our Committee struck the right balance between being cost effective and selecting quality materials and finishes that are classic and timeless.

I especially want to thank the members of the Committee who have dedicated a tremendous amount of time to this effort, namely, Robert Schenkel, Beth Hundgen, Dana Berk, Jeffrey Kohn, Phyllis Furnari, Lauren Levin and Monica De Janosi. I also want to thank the members of the design team, Jared M. Anderson and Townsend Lewis, and our Town Staff: Sabrina Charney Hull, Jill Shapiro and Steve Coleman.

I know residents have been very anxious to see these improvements come to fruition. The Town Board will be voting on the Plan at its September 20, 2016 meeting. Our goal is to go out to bid this winter with construction starting in the spring. Here’s a link to last night’s “Final Design Update Presentation”.
