Mission Statement

The Town of New Castle is committed to fostering a climate that is truly diverse, equitable, and inclusive of all in our community, and it has created the New Castle Council on Race, Equity and Inclusion (CREI) in an effort to help achieve this important objective.

The mission of the New Castle CREI is to build and sustain a community that is racially, culturally, and socially integrated and inclusive, where equity for all is the norm. The New Castle CREI’s mission is based in the belief that a clear commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is paramount to the growth and health of our community. In furtherance of this mission, we will promote a trusted environment where we listen to, support, and learn from marginalized voices, and create partnerships that will allow us to uniformly represent the interests of all within our community, reflecting our shared ideals.

In order to accomplish this, we will:

  • Work to promote equal dignity for all and to empower each community member, by creating an affirming and welcoming culture that values and celebrates our rich and diverse backgrounds.
  • Promote discourse where all voices are heard and differing views are acknowledged, ensuring that each person feels safe in those conversations.
  • Advocate that our institutions address the root issues that hinder diversity, racial equity, and inclusion.
  • Make recommendations to the Town Board and encourage unity and collaboration in our community.

We will uphold our commitment and continually strive to improve upon it and assess our progress through meaningful interactions, communications, and feedback from our community.
