[ARCHIVED] Advisory on COVID-19/Coronavirus

Town of New Castle Seal

The Town of New Castle has been working with Westchester County Executive George Latimer, and the Westchester County Department of Health and Department of Emergency Services to plan and prepare for the COVID-19/Coronavirus here in our community.

This morning Temple Beth El announced that a part-time teacher in their Early Childhood Center, who was last in their building on Wednesday, March 4, tested positive for the virus yesterday.

With this information, as well as the declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic, the Town of New Castle is recommending the suspension of any community and social gatherings over 20 people, as a precautionary measure for the next 30 days. This guidance will be updated and revisited regularly over the coming days and weeks.

  • The Town will suspend or reschedule all Board and Commission meetings. The Town Board Work Session on Tuesday evening will be a virtual meeting conducted via Zoom. A link for the public will be shared early next week.
  • All programs and Town facilities are closed, including the Community Center, which includes the Senior Center, the Art Center, and the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center.
  • Town Hall will be closed to the public, however, all departments will be staffed and operating. For all routine business, please call Town Hall, do not come in. You can reach us at 914-238-4771/2 or www.mynewcastle.org.
  • Police Department will remain open to the public.
  • There is a locked, drop box for paperwork outside of the police department for all Town Hall payments and correspondence. The Town strongly recommends providing payment via mail or online. For questions, call 914-238-4742. Items that will not fit in the lockbox must be checked in with the Police Department. Do not leave unattended parcels in the lobby.
  • All Town of New Castle Recreation programs are suspended for a period of 30 days. If you are currently registered and enrolled in a Town of New Castle Recreation program, you will receive a pro-rated refund or account credit. Registration for spring/summer programs will be accepted online only.
  • Meals on Wheels will continue to provide home-delivered meals as scheduled. If you would like to assist with the delivery of meals, please sign up as a driver by contacting Christine Grey (cgrey@mynewcastle.org) or Bess Steiger (bsteiger@mynewcastle.org). If you know of any Seniors who may be in need of assistance, please call the Recreation office at 914-238-3909.
  • The Town is currently identifying all Town employees that can work remotely and will continue to make business continuity a priority.

The Town continues to be in regular communication with the County, as well as the Chappaqua Central School District and neighboring school districts, the fire departments and ambulance corps and our local houses of worship. We will continue to provide updated information as we receive it.
