Chappaqua Downtown Revitalization – June 21, 2019

Some have asked why the gap in the new sidewalks.  That reason is that we are waiting for NYSDOT approval for ADA compliance before pouring sidewalks at a few locations, such as by Eye Gallery, ICD, Local, Whispering Pines & Bank of America.  This approval comes after the curbs are installed & involves reviewing redesigned steps into those stores.  We also cannot pour new sidewalks until some trench drains are installed by Starbucks and Pizza Station.  Lastly, before working at the corner King & Greeley, we need approval from NYSDOT for the temporary location of the stop sign.

As far as South Greeley (by Pizza Station), this week & next week they will be fabricating the trench drain.

As far as South Greeley  (by Starbucks), last week they poured some sidewalks.  This week they will install brick pavers & place concrete in areas with trench drains.

As far as South Greeley (Chappaqua Hardware side), they graded for sidewalk & started pouring the sidewalks.  This week they will continue to grade for sidewalk, pour more sidewalks & install brick pavers.

As far as lower King, last week they continued to place concrete and continued to install the brick pavers.  By Casa Tile, they excavated & graded for the bluestone. This week they will place the concrete & bluestone.   They will continue to install brick pavers.  Full depth road restoration on lower King is on hold.

As far as Allen Place, they installed the sidewalk & brick pavers.

As far as upper King from South Greeley to Senter Street (Family Britches side), next week they will excavate & install new drainage in the sidewalk & roadway.

Our 1st pedestrian beacon is currently being installed. The other 3 pedestrian beacons will be installed at the following locations.

By Pizza Station to Bank of America
By Lange’s
By Route 100/bike path

The state would not approve one by The Bagel Emporium due to sign line issues.

The construction is tough but residents can look forward to new, wider sidewalks, attractive new public spaces, new crosswalks and traffic/parking improvements that will make it safer and more enjoyable to walk around our downtown!

Night work is not currently planned over the next 2 weeks.
