Community Preparedness: Citizen Response to Active Shooter
The ability of the town’s emergency services to respond will be delayed by hours or days after a major incident or disaster. Even when emergency shelters and supplies are made available, neighborhoods could be cut off from using them. During this time residents will need to have resources and be prepared to perform as first responders for themselves, their family and neighbors. Preparing individuals and neighborhoods to fend for themselves when necessary will be the focus of a series of seminars and training sessions offered by New Castles first responders and the Emergency Preparedness Committee.
The first session will be held in New Castle Town Hall on April 13, 2017 starting at 7PM. This session titled “Civilian Response to an Active Shooter” will provide information to help citizens be better prepared should they be in the vicinity of an active shooter incident. The session will be instructed by Officers from New Castle’s firearms training unit who have been certified to provide this course.
