ChappPAC – Jordan Matter

As a real joint effort with the ChappPac, Friends of the ChappPAC and Arts & Culture Committee, Scattered Books will be hosting a live presentation by famed dance photographer (and social media legend) Jordan Matter and launching his new book, Born to Dance. His previous book, Dancers Among Us, was wildly popular, and his 10-minute challenges on Instagram and You Tube have drawn 1M+ followers. Jordan’s work is known worldwide and we are thrilled to host his very first public appearance in conjunction with his new book!

The event will take place at the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center on October 14th at 5:00 (doors open at 4:00pm). All tickets come with a seat to the live presentation, which is inspiring and has an anti-bullying and self-esteem building undertone, plus a signed book and a selfie/photo with Jordan. VIP ticket-holders will enjoy a private meet & greet prior to the presentation at 4:30 and front row seating. Additional copies of his books will be available for purchase at the event and Jordan will sign more than 1 copy. You can see Jordan’s amazing photos on his Instagram and also on YouTube. And we may also have a few fun surprises planned at the event =)

NEW: LWVNC to hold Candidates’ Night Monday, October 29th

LWV LogoThe League of Women Voters® of New Castle (LWVNC) invites the community to Candidates’ Night on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at New Castle Town Hall, 200 South Greeley Avenue, Chappaqua, New York. Candidates for NY State Assembly, District 93, Assemblyman David Buchwald (Incumbent, D) and Mr. John Nuculovic (Rep, Con) have accepted our invitation.

Candidates for US Congressional District 17 (Congresswoman Nita Lowey/Joseph Ciardullo) were invited, but at this time only Mr. Ciardullo has committed to appear. Due to the League of Women Voter’s “Empty Chair” policy, a minimum of two candidates running against one another must be present to hold a candidate forum. Candidates for NYS Senate District 40 (Senator Terrence Murphy/Peter Harckham), were offered a few possible dates for a candidate forum but were unable to find a mutually convenient date.

“It is most unfortunate that the other candidates are not participating,” said Suzanne Kavic, President of the LWVNC, “since our Candidates’ Night provides the voters a wonderful opportunity to hear about the issues most important to them.” The October 29th LWVNC Candidates’ Night is free and open to the public. The evening’s proceedings will be recorded and streamed live by New Castle Community Media Center, as well as for later rebroadcast.

The LWVNC will provide coffee and light refreshments. For additional information, please contact the New Castle League or Mary Kirsch at 914-409-2989. For up-to-date information on the candidates and your polling places, go to

Senator Murphy and Mr. Harckham are participating in a Candidates’ Night on October 22nd at 6:30 p.m. at the Mahopac Library, hosted by the League of Women Voters® of Putnam County. All are welcome. The LWVNC will make every effort to obtain a recording of that event and post it on the New Castle League’s website.

NEW: Chappaqua Farmers Market – You Could Go To Koreatown For Some Great BBQ…

Farmers market header…or, you could just head to the train station on Saturday where Kimchi Culture will be dishing up traditional Bulgogi.

Bulgogi, literally, “fire meat,” is a Korean classic dish made of thin, marinated slices of superior beef (or pork) that have been marinated in a sweet/savory sauce of soy sauce, sugar, and pear juice, then grilled. Almost all Korean family celebrations include a bulgogi dish. Sunny will be serving the bbq as part of a “Korean lunch box” which will also include some of her classic cabbage Kimchi and her rice cooked with Aster leaves and kabocha squash. The combination lunchbox sells for only $7.
