NEW: Small Business Saturday!

shop smallThis Saturday is Small Business Saturday, a day dedicated to supporting small businesses. There are so many reasons to support our merchants. Here are Supervisor Rob Greenstein’s top 10 reasons to Shop Local.

1. Vibrant business districts help maintain high residential property values. Research shows that a healthy and vibrant business districts boosts the economic health and quality of life in a community. So, by shopping locally you’re actually benefitting yourself.

2. Vibrant business districts help defray the residential share of the property tax. Much of their taxes goes directly to help fund our great schools.

3. Small businesses contribute more to local causes and community groups. They support school and charitable causes year-round.

4. Small businesses are more invested in the community’s future as many are owned by our neighbors.

5. Small businesses offers personalized customer service and a local touch.

6. Our New Castle small businesses sell unique products and quickly meet the needs of their local customers.

7. Shopping Local keeps money in New Castle. The 3/50 Project asks consumers what 3 businesses they would miss if they closed and to commit to spending a total of $50 a month in one or more of those three establishments. For every $50 spent in locally owned stores, $34 returns to the community through payroll, other expenditures and taxes. If you spend $50 in a national chain, only $22 stays here. If you spend it online, $0 stays here.

8. Shopping Local helps to sustain vibrant and walkable town centers in Millwood and Chappaqua.

9. Shopping Local is an easy way for you to join New Castle’s environmental efforts – save money, save gas, save the environment!.

10. When small businesses succeed, we all do!

NEW: Take It Or Leave It Shop- Thank You!

TIOLI VolunteersThe Take It Or Leave It Shop volunteers thank the town for all your cooperation during the 2018 season. Bicycle Saturday and Crutches for Kids were a fine additions to the program. We were very grateful for the recycling center’s pick-up of leftover trash. We don’t keep statistics on the number of things left and taken, but we know that we have many happy customers and that literally tons of stuff was taken and used rather than dumped as garbage. Many people stopped by on our last day of the season to say “thanks” and we in turn thank you. We look forward to opening early next April, always weather-permitting!

NEW: ChappPAC: What Fresh Hell: Laughing in the Face of Motherhood

December 1
Time: 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Chappaqua PAC, 480 Bedford Road Chappaqua, NY 10514

We are Amy Wilson and Margaret Ables, two moms with tons of experience in comedy. Amy wrote a bestselling parenting book, toured the country with a one-woman show called Mother Load, and was a series regular on several sitcoms. Margaret started out in standup, wrote for PBS Kids and MTV, and became a senior writer for Nickelodeons Nick Mom. Along the way, we also each became mothers of three children, now aged 6 to 15.

We engage with the same parenting issues every mother does, although we do things differently. Margaret raises her kids in suburbia; Amy is raising her kids in the city. Margaret is laissez-faire; Amy is an over-thinker of the highest order. For each of us, some parenting challenges are more difficult than others; but if we put our heads together, we come up with solutions. Tickets can be purchased here.
