Recyclables in Plastic Bags Will Not Be Picked Up

Effective January 1, 2018, recyclables in plastic bags will not be picked up. All recyclables must be loose and unbagged and placed in recycling containers. This is based on the requirements from ReCommunity, the Material Recovery Facility in Beacon, NY, a for-profit facility that receives and processes our recyclables. Most bagged recyclables are NOT recycled and instead thrown in the trash!

For a complete explanation and for additional information on recycling, please go here or here.

If recyclables are in plastic bags, this SaniPro sticker will be affixed to the plastic bag as a reminder.

New Castle United for Youth: Holidays and Alcohol – Thinking About the Examples We Set For Our Kids

The holidays are a festive time of year filled with fun and celebrations involving adults and children alike. As we enjoy the season, it’s important to make sure that we are celebrating safely and setting the right examples for our kids. Even though it may be tempting to loosen the rules during holiday time, make sure to set clear expectations and have everyone in your family onboard. Also remember that teens learn from experience and observations – be sure to set good examples around alcohol use in your home and at parties you attend or host. For thoughts on how to do this successfully, read Holiday Parties and the Hypocrisy Dilemma, which includes some good suggestions for how to talk to your teens about age-dependent activities like alcohol consumption and how to model safe holiday behavior.

New Castle United for Youth Presents Vaping, Juuling and E-Cigarettes – What You Don’t Know Can Hurt Your Kids

While our teens are well versed in vaping lingo, many are not well educated on the health risks those devices present. There is a further knowledge gap between what our kids know and what we parents do. Save the date for an informative presentation about vaping presented in collaboration between NCUFY, the CCSD, the Chappaqua PTA, Town of New Castle and Northern Westchester Hospital Center on January 18 at 7 pm in the Horace Greeley High School Auditorium.

In the meantime, here are some helpful hints from the Surgeon General for how to talk to your kids about vaping, juuling and e-cigarettes.

For more information about vaping, visit the “vaping, juuling and e-cigarettes” link in the Parent Toolkit on our website.
