Town of New Castle Administrator’s Report – 01/10/18

Jill Shapiro
Administrator, New Castle

Wishing Everyone a Happy 2018!

We’d like to note changes in personnel in the Town Clerk’s Office. I would like to extend my personal thanks to Mary Deems for all she has done for the Town. When the Town needed someone who could step into the role of Town Clerk and Receiver of Taxes almost four years ago, Mary was willing to step up and accepted the challenge. With her usual grace under pressure and can-do attitude, Mary undertook this double role back in 2014 and has successfully supervised both departments since then. Mary has recently decided that she’d like to assist with the transition to new leadership in those positions, and effective with the New Year she moved back into her role as deputy. Mary’s institutional knowledge and vast experience will be critical to the success of those departments for years to come. We congratulate Mary on a job well done!We also welcome Christina Papes to her new position as Town Clerk and Receiver of Taxes and wish her much success in her new role.

Con Ed

Con Ed will be back in town this week to remove plates in the road and back fill and pave those holes. The black plants are temporarily opening for the remainder of this week and Con Ed will take advantage of this to remove the plates and restore our streets.

Seasonal Parking Restrictions are in Effect

123-10 of the New Castle Town Code prohibits overnight parking on public roads from November 1 – April 1 from 1 am to 7 am.123-9 (4) limits overnight parking in our public parking lots. In order for us to be able to clear our public parking lots, including our commuter lot, there is no overnight parking in our public parking lots between November 1 and April 1- except in the two designated areas. These two areas are:

  1. by the skate board park in the far rear of the commuter lot, and
  2. the triangle adjacent to the town hall parking lot.

These two designated areas allow people who may need to leave their cars overnight during the winter season to park with minimal disruption to our ability to clear snow. This is especially important when parking at our commuter lot is at a premium.

DPW- Highway and Water Units- Thank you!

A shout out to our DPW highway crews- for another stellar job clearing the snow in last week’s blizzard like event. Thank you!! As if that wasn’t enough, our water unit was working outside repairing water main breaks on Saturday and Sunday in record low temperatures. We extend our thanks to our crews for braving the frigid temperature and repair the broken mains with minimal disruption to the water service to these neighborhoods.
